Specializing in Tarpon, Kingfish, Cobia About Capt. Whit Whitlock Captain Whit Whitlock has spent his life on the sea. For the past 40 years he has guided anglers as captain/owner of a charter boat based at Camachee Cove in St. Augustine.
The "Black Hawk" is a 20' open Shamrock powered by and inboard engine and equipped with a VHF marine radio, GPS, and fishfinder. It will accommodate 3 anglers and is well suited for fly fishing, light tackle, medium tackle, and stand-up angling techniques.
Captain Whit fishes for all sport fish. The headliners are tarpon and king mackerel. His goal is to not necessarily fill the boat with fish but to have the most enjoyable experience with each fish that is hooked. His specialty is tarpon. The season begins in June and runs into mid October. Chumming with medium tackle is the method of choice. Fly casters can join the pioneers in these near shore waters. King mackerel are caught from 1 to 15 miles out, usually by slow trolling live bait on light tackle. This is best from June into August. Other species are caught as incidentals and throughout the summer. The earliest fishing is spin and fly fishing for cobia and 8-15 lb. bluefish in April and May. November through March will not be available. |
